Introduction and Explanations

Normaly this should be named SCHLICKER Family, since the greatest part of the material is from the lineage of my wife. My lines from Austria are to be found under WILHELM.The lines of my Dad can be found under the Families from U.S.A. The lines of my mother are through her mother from Austria and through her father from Hungaria.

The information has been collected over a period of about 20 years. ( begining 1978 )

In almost any cases when there are dates for children, we have more information about them too. Most of the births/baptisms and marriages can be traced to the exact volume and page where they are recorded. In some cases the pages have not been numbered and in some cases the people who helped me to find the informations did not give me volume / page.

There are some explanations about the situation of our "strongpoints". Bavaria is the southeastern corner of Germany and in this country we have two areas where our families have been rather strongly distributed.

The first is the "Area Dachau". This is a county to the north of Munich and some parts of neighbouring counties. There has been a lot of moving about in our lines in this area.We had mostly farmers there and some info comes from farm chronicles.

The second is the "Area Berchtesgaden". This is a county in the southeastern corner of Bavaria, some neighbouring counties and a small part of the Austrian County of Salzburg. There we have mainly farm owners and some lines can be traced untill the start of the church records and even before this point. This area belonged some time to Austria / Salzburg ( but the inhabitants see the whole point just reverse ! ) and there we have some lines in the parish of Grossgmain. This is today an Austrian parish and holds also the older church records for a part of Bavaria, called Bayerisch Gmain. This parish also holds the oldest church records for Marzoll which is also in Bavaria. Took me quite a while to figure that out. To confuse things even more, Marzoll belongs to the city of Bad Reichenhall which holds another two parishes for that city itself. As you can imagine there has been a lot of intermarriages between all these parishes.

Around 1600, in some cases, the family name and name of the farm has been the same and in some cases, where we can not follow the lines anymore through church records, we suspect to know where the family came from anyway, because there is a farm or small village nearby which carries the same name.

As for the area in Austria I would like to explain that about half of the lines belong to parishes in Lower Austria and the other half belongs to parishes in Upper Austria. There is just a small hill, which holds the border for these two counties, dividing this parishes. Here my ancestors where workers in all kinds of ironworks and woodcutting, because this area was famous for itīs sickles and scythes.
